Dag Hammarskjold School No. 6 is located at the corner of Upper Falls Blvd. and Hudson Ave. We support the success of every child in reading through a comprehensive reading program for grades K-3 called Reading First. We offer state-of-the-art technology including a 24-computer lab plus two mobile labs with internet connections. All computers are networked throughout the building, with an up-to-date computer in each classroom. Students use computer-based programs such as Renaissance Learning Software, STAR Reading and Math diagnostics, Accelerated Reader and others which support classroom instruction.
- Volunteers from Third Presbyterian Church provide teacher-directed tutoring during school hours through a partnership that has been in place for more than 17 years.
- Mainstreaming/integrated classroom opportunities are provided for students with learning disabilities at grades K-6.
- Music enrichment includes Chorus, a 50-voice ensemble of 4th and 5th graders that performs two public concerts a year; and Instrumental Music (horns), providing weekly instruction for selected 4th and 5th graders.
- Olweus Bullying Prevention Program helps maintain a positive school atmosphere.
- Suspension Prevention Program is an after-school detention program that offers counseling services and tutoring.
- Ibero 21st Century After-School Program offers tutoring, homework assistance, and recreational activities.
- Big Brother/Big Sister Program provides supportive mentoring relationships for students.
- Active Parent Teachers Organization presents monthly workshops for parents and monthly Parent Meetings geared to the needs of the parents.
