Students from World of Inquiry School No. 58 will demonstrate their learning through displays and projects at the school’s Exhibition Night tonight (Wednesday, December 12) from 6:30-8:00 p.m. The school is located at 200 University Avenue.
The event will showcase student work from their recent social studies based learning expedition entitled “We are the World, We are the Crew, We are the Children.” It will begin with performances by the school chorus, band, and Crystals & Gems step team. The evening will also include a silent art auction of work created by sixth-grade students, with proceeds benefiting the House of Mercy, and a display of student-created masks and poems about themselves.
The instructional program at World of Inquiry is based on an educational philosophy called “Expeditionary Learning” in which teachers and students pursue long-term intellectual investigations built around projects and performances. The investigations take students out into the world and bring the world into the classroom. Teachers connect quality academic learning to adventure, service, and character development through a variety of student experiences including interdisciplinary projects.
Each grade level has explored its own expedition topic and will display projects on that topic. In addition, each grade is conducting a service project related to its studies which will benefit the House of Mercy. Topics are as follows:
Kindergarten: “Your Toys, My Toys,” conducted in partnership with Strong National Museum of Play.
Grade 1: “Families, Then and Now.”
Grade 2: “Big City, Big Farm.”
Grade 3: “Faces of Freedom.”
Grade 4: “Across Our Country.”
Grade 5: “Our Government, Our Democracy.”
Grade 6: “Ancient Art and Civilization,” conducted in partnership with the Memorial Art Gallery and Nazareth College. |
