Rochester High School Students’ Winter Clothing Drive Benefits Families in Need

Date: December 20, 2007

Winter clothing collected by the Rochester City School District’s Student Leadership Congress will be distributed today to families in need.

The distribution will take place today from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the Family Learning Center, 30 Hart Street, room 332.

The students decorated collection boxes and placed them in their schools to collect clothing for a project they dubbed “Winter Warmth.” The following schools participated: Charlotte High School, Dr. Freddie Thomas High School, Jefferson High School, Bioscience & Health Careers High School at Franklin, International Finance Career High School at Franklin, and Wilson Magnet High School.

Donations of clothing were also provided by employees of Xerox Capital Services and the Rochester City School District’s Central Office.

With support from staff of the District’s Customer Service Center, room 332 at 30 Hart Street was set up as a distribution site resembling a mini clothing store. Families that called in advance will be able to select from a variety of items including clothing and outerwear for children and adults.

Students will be on hand today to assist families with selecting items.

Student Leadership Congress is an organization of city high school students who meet monthly to gain leadership experience and participate in projects that benefit the community. It is open to students in grades 7-12. For more information, call 262-8373.
