Dear RCSD High School Students:
Welcome back to another exciting school year! My name is Sarah DeLaus. I am a junior at Wilson Magnet High School Commencement Academy and the newly inducted president of the Rochester City School District’s Student Leadership Congress (SLC).
SLC is an organization of city high school students who come together to gain leadership experience and participate in projects that benefit the community. Our meetings are held once a month at 3:30 p.m. at the RCSD Central Office, 131 West Broad Street; we also travel to off-site locations for specific projects. Projects have included creating a public service announcement (TV spot) to instill a positive message to students about bullying; mentoring younger students; planning and carrying out community service activities; and providing the student perspective on school district and community issues. Our members develop strong friendships and enjoy the social aspect of our meetings and activities.
If that sounds interesting to you, then consider joining SLC!
We are looking for students in grades 7-12 to join our team. We are seeking students who are willing to contribute their ideas and who demonstrate a team-oriented attitude, creativity, motivation, and dedication.
Our first meeting will be Wednesday, September 17 at 3:30 p.m. at Central Office. You’re welcome to attend without notifying us in advance; we’d love to have you come by and see what we’re all about. You’re also welcome to call SLC advisor Tom Petronio, RCSD Chief Communications Officer, at 262-8373 or to email me at s_delaus@yahoo.com.
We look forward to meeting you!
Sincerely,
Sarah DeLaus
